2001 Community Iniative
In 2001, Akiele took stock of its presence in the African American community. Based on that assessment, Akiele committed itself to a Five-Point Community Initiative, some of which are still unfolding.
VOTER REGISTRATION – Akiele does voter registration at every program.
ORGAN DONATION – Akiele will have organ donation forms and information at every program.
SUPPORT A SISTER IN NEED – Akiele will identify individuals or organization that represent the ideals of the organization, and support them with scholarships, or in-kind donations.
“MAKE A CHANGE” – Akiele will collect spare change at every programs. The organization will match a portion of the funds collected. 100% of the proceeds will go the Support a Sister in Need program.
HOME BUYING – Akiele has partnered with Westchester Residential Organization (WRO), a not-for-profit, fair housing organization, to help qualified tri-state residents buy their first home.
