  • Frequently Asked Questions

Are programs sponsored by Akiele only for people in recovery?
No. Anyone on a spiritual path, who desires to heal old wounds, or practice the art of self-love, can benefit from our time-tested life skills.

Are programs sponsored by Akiele for women only?
No. While a great many of our programs focus on women's issues (such as "Westchester Women's Unity Day," and the "Weekend Women's Spiritual Retreats"), Akiele has done programs that include men. The lecture and meditation series with best-selling author, Iyanla Vanzant, had a significant male population. Additionally, all One-Day Conferences, with luminaries such as motivational speaker, Susan L. Taylor, and R&B artist, KEM, cross gender and economic lines. Finally, Akiele is planning a "Telling Our Story Lecture Series," which will feature male and female celebrities telling their stories of overcoming adversity in their own words.

Are programs sponsored by Akiele for African Americans only?
No. While our target audience is people of color, all are welcome. Our "Women's Weekend Spiritual Retreats" have been attended by Latina women. Our basic philosophy is based on Kwanzaa, 12 Step Programs, and Universal Spiritual Principles. Akiele believes the unique blending of these principles can help most people address life's challenges.
